Walter E. Washington Convention Center Reopens for Large Events

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser on Tuesday held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center to mark the two-building facility’s official reopening.

The center will welcome back guests this month with the return of two popular conventions — the Otakon, to be held Aug. 6-8, and Awesome Con, slated for Aug. 20-22.

The ceremony for the center, which hasn’t been open to the public for such large-scale events since the outset of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, also celebrated the grand opening of Ben’s Chili Bowl and Shop Made DC locations inside the Northwest facility.
